Thailand's top Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has been sentenced to five years in prison by the highest court.
Reuters reports Wednesday that the Supreme Court has barred him for proving his negligence in the case filed against him for misusing the subsidy scheme for farmers.
Yingluck Shinawatra was overthrown by a coup in May 2014. At that time, allegations of fraud against the subsidized rice were raised. The verdict was pronounced on August 25. However, Yingluck did not appear before the court on that day. It is known later that Yingluck fled the country in fear of a severe punishment.
The news agency Reuters reported in a report that Yingluck has gone to former prime minister and brother Thaksin Shinawatra in Dubai.
The Supreme Court verdict on Wednesday said that Yinglou knew about corruption in the subsidy project in Chalai. But he did not take any action to stop it.
In the statement issued from the court, it was said, "The government knows the charge of the government's rice treaty with the government. But he did not take steps to stop it.
