United Nations Security Council meeting today to discuss the crisis caused by the Burmese army's brutal torture and destruction of Rohingyas. The meeting may be a strong message to Myanmar.
United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will talk about the situation in Rakhine. Although Bangladesh is not a member of the Security Council, the delegation of UN representatives will present Bangladesh's speech on Rohingya situation in the meeting.
The meeting was held at the request of seven members of the Security Council. A permanent member of the council requested the United States, the United Kingdom, France and the four permanent members of the meeting in Egypt, Kazakhstan, Senegal and Sweden.
After the Myanmar expedition began on August 25 in Rakhine, the two-chamber security council was discussed in a closed-door meeting. Although the statement condemned violence in the meeting and called for a call for the efforts of international relief workers in Rakhine, but did not respond to it, Myanmar did not respond to it.
At the meeting of the Security Council, a formal statement may be given with strong message to Myanmar. But human rights organizations demanded a ban on arms, but there is doubt about whether any proposal to take any action against Myanmar will be held. Because the proposal to veto Russia or China, it will not be effective.
Meanwhile, Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali held a meeting with the ambassadors of the Security Council member countries at the state guest house Padma in Dhaka on Wednesday to highlight the Rohingya situation and Bangladesh's position.
After briefing the ambassadors, the foreign minister told reporters that if Bangladesh is not a member of the Security Council, the permanent representatives of the United Nations will present the government's statement there. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has presented a five-point proposal to resolve the Rohingya crisis in the United Nations General Assembly session on September 21, basically the position of Bangladesh will be highlighted on the basis of the Security Council.
He said, "They have been told that the hope of Bangladesh is to take such a step that the Rohingyas who fled their lives can return to Myanmar safely and safely." The Security Council members do not have embassies in Dhaka. The representatives of these countries are sympathetic towards Bangladesh with the Rohingya crisis.
Earlier, after the start of the Rohingya crisis, the Security Council had held closed-door meetings in two phases. Last week, an informal statement was also condemned to condemn the Rakhine situation and to stop violence against Myanmar authorities.
On the other hand, the Myanmar Rakhine attack on August 24, police and senchhoki attacked, the army started the operation the next day. Burmese torture, killing and burning of their homes started by Rohingyas.
In order to save lives, Rohingya started coming to the party in Bangladesh. Since August 25, around 480,000 Rohingyas have fled to Cox's Bazar. The United Nations has identified Myanmar military operations in Rakhine as a 'ethnic cleansing campaign'.
Apart from this, about 5 lakh Rohingyas are already in Bangladesh. Due to the torture of Myanmar, they have come to Bangladesh several times in the last few decades. Although Bangladesh has given Rohingyas a place for human rights, Myanmar must take them back.
